What We Do

Our Mission

Our mission is to foster appreciation of Mark Prairie's unique history; to carry out historical research, preservation and education; and to provide the public with meaningful heritage experiences.

Our History

Mark Prairie Heritage was founded in June of 2015 by descendants of John Mark the Oregon Pioneer, who crossed The Oregon Trail in 1847. At that time a group of family members, decided that an organized effort was required to help preserve and maintain the one room schoolhouse located on the original donation land claim,  artifacts, and documents, as well as the stories and remembrances, of the Mark Family. From this, Mark Prairie Heritage was established with a Board of Directors to oversee the operation of the organization and a wide range of programs and opportunities.

Today at Mark Prairie Heritage
The Mark Family celebrated their 90th Annual Reunion at The Mark Prairie One Room Schoolhouse on July 26th, 2015.  Family members from all across the country and Canada attended this festive event, with live music provided by Heartstrings Duo.

Our Funding
Funding of Mark Prairie Heritage will come from memberships, programs, events, donations from individuals, businesses, and grants from foundations and governmental agencies.

Mark Prairie Heritage is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization, with tax-exempt status under Internal Revenue Service regulations.
